On April 9, 2016, Barth Elektronik was granted the Global Supplier Award for Innovation for their mini PLCs of the STG series in Hong Kong. During the Hong Kong Sevens, the worldwide most famous rugby tournament, the award has been granted by RS Components, a globally operating supplier for electronic components. The mini PLCs especially stand out because of their small and solid size. Furthermore, a high user-friendliness is guaranteed by the graphical programming software miCon-L, which is part of the great success.

With their mini PLC series, Barth Elektronik was able to sell more than 1,000 PLCs over the RS Components platform in only a few months. “Considering that Barth hasn’t been an established global brand confirms that an innovative product can sell everywhere if RS give it a try,” highlights Hermann Baudry, responsible category manager of PLCs & HMIs at RS Components. The mini PLCs have been sold globally, in over 26 markets.

With this award, RS Components confirms that “our focus on innovation and attention to manufacturing quality has paid off,” says Daniel Barth, general manager of Barth Elektronik GmbH, proudly in the acknowledgement video. The way to the Global Supplier Award actually started in 2011, when Barth Elektronik introduced the small and innovative mini PLCs at the exhibition SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg, Germany, where RS Components first noticed Barth Elektronik. At the beginning, “the products still looked like prototypes,” says Baudry, they had not yet been suitable for selling. However, after Barth had given the PLCs a final touch and extended his series, RS Components came back and took the PLC series into their product portfolio about nine months ago.
